UPCOMING EVENTS / CURRENT EXHIBITS

Refusés of the Bay
September 29th – October 28th, 2023

Opening Soirée
Friday, September 29, 2023
8 pm – midnight
Closing Reception
Saturday, October 28, 2023
Noon – 5 pm

Voss Gallery and Metal Haus Gallery present “Refusés of the Bay,” a collaborative art project of two curated exhibitions by Bay Area artists whose work was inexplicably overlooked by the jurors of The de Young Open 2023.

“Refusés of the Bay” is a tribute to the 1863 Salon des Refusés, which showcased rejected artwork from the highly acclaimed Paris Salon, featuring a staggering two-thirds of the submitted work that was not initially chosen. This renegade art fair included emerging works from James McNeill Whistler, Édouard Manet, Camille Pissarro, and other world-renowned artists whose careers took off after the show.

This year, the de Young Museum received over 7,700 submissions to its triennial open call for community artists and fewer than 900 were selected. To narrow the gap, Voss Gallery and Metal Haus Gallery are partnering to provide platforms for the work of other exceptional local artists to be shown.

SKY
February 18th – March 26th, 2023
Artist Talks and Live Music!
SKY is the culmination of The Drawing Room’s exhibition series at 780 Valencia Street about the environment, following LANDAdaptations, and their most recent show, SEA.
In these exhibitions, the curators ask artists to think about the following questions: What is possible? How have we, as artists, been impacted by environmental degradation and climate change? How are we impacting the environment in our art practice and daily existence? How can our work and art communicate awareness and the specific needs for change? What is the call to action?
Art can impress upon us in a way that data and graphs often fail to and can appeal to our senses and engage us cognitively in new ways. The Drawing Room is asking artists to bring works that will create an impression and create impact.

An evening of art, wine and live classical music

January 7th, 2023
6:00 – 9:00 pm (music performance at 7:00 pm)

Retreat Skin + Hair Studio, 146 Fillmore St, SF (map)

Please join me as we celebrate the dawning of the New Year and the final days of my artist residency at Retreat Salon! After a full year, all the original paintings will be coming down off the walls to find new homes. Swing by for some wine and cheese, hangout with me and learn about my artistic process, and of course, view the work!

There will also be a special Groupmuse performance in the back garden by local musical talent Blue Heron Duo, who will be playing classical guitar and flute. If you haven't been to a Groupmuse, it is a mini classical concert in a casual, friendly setting. Click here to learn more and if you'd like to reserve a seat for $5.

This will be the last chance to see many of the paintings in this exhibit and is a great opportunity to collect a contemporary, unique piece of art while supporting your creative community! If elevating the decor in your home or office is on your list of New Year's resolutions for 2023, it would be my honor to share my works with you and curate something special for your space. All pieces are one-of-a-kind, so please preview the gallery and contact me to put a painting on-hold if there is a piece that steals your heart.

One Year Artist Residency at Retreat

January 2022 – January 2023

Michelle Rothman and Kimberly Padgett, co-owners of Retreat Hair + Skin Studio, have graciously offered up the walls of their beautiful salon to feature my artwork for an entire year. My most recent paintings from the Reflections series adorn the space and viewers can get a true sense of how the paintings interact within a well-designed, functional and livable environment. Throughout the year, I will be adding new works and rearranging the pieces to take advantage of the incredible, soft light that shifts and flows through their studio.

Currently due to the nature of the pandemic, the studio isn’t always available to walk-ins daily, however, casual viewings can easily be arranged via appointment. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at info@altairesart.com or reach out to Retreat directly: info@retreatsf.com or 415.487.1772

There will be a variety of art events throughout the course of my residency and all of the paintings featured there are currently available for purchase. In the meantime, if you’re feeling in need of some quality self-care, I invite you to book a treatment with any of the amazing aestheticians at Retreat. They offer an incredible array of services, from customized facials and waxing to reiki and full-body treatments.

Women Rising
March 12th – April 30th, 2022
Artist Talks and Live Music (Details Here)
The INSIDE/OUTSIDE Project (a collaboration between The Drawing Room and Curated State) invited SF Bay Area women artists, including cis, trans, and female-identifying artists, to submit works created since 2020 that represent the impacts of the past 2 years on their art and state of mind. They asked artists how COVID, the recent climate crisis and the many socio-political issues happening in these times have affected artists as makers, thinkers and activists.
Works in all media are included in the exhibit, with over 400 pieces of art, multi-media/video/sound and site-specific installation works, as well as sculptures. The Drawing Room + Curated State have filled a very large space, effectively reactivating a large storefront space bringing new life and community to this corridor.

Art Lives Within Us — An online exhibit and fundraiser replacing the cancelled ArtSpan 2020 Benefit Art Auction

April 7 – June 1, 2020
Online Gallery, Information and Instagram

Originally, this event was scheduled to help support ArtSpan’s city-wide programming and close in on the final $500,000 needed to open their new home: the ArtSpan Onondaga Art Center. The new creative hub is dedicated to serving artists and residents for years to come with art studios, a meeting space, a resource center, classrooms, and a gallery. Due to the shelter-in-place mandates resulting from COVID-19, the original auction events have been cancelled, however, many artists have still agreed to share proceeds from the sales of their art to benefit this cherished non-profit organization. The painting pictured here was selected by jurors to be featured in the exhibit and Altaires will be donating a portion of the sale to benefit ArtSpan.

This is a wonderful chance to build your art collection and elevate your personal space with unique pieces that stimulate the mind or soothe the soul — all while supporting our creative community!
